If You Give A Trans Person A Book Club is a virtual book club for trans folks and books with trans representation!
This group is for anyone who is trans/transgender, non-binary, gender queer, gender fluid, gender non-conforming, gender questioning/curious, or is otherwise part of the gender-diverse community.
We recognize that everyone is the expert of their own lived experiences and identities, and that everyone has autonomy over when and how they choose to share that information about themselves with others.
Join us for a group discussion of If You Give A Trans Person A Book Club’s current book choice. Over the course of up to three months, we will be reading one book and participating in open discussions about it during our monthly meetings. We meet on the 3rd Monday of each month @ 6:30PM-8:00PM EST. Attendance is never mandatory, so you're welcome to join a discussion even if you missed a previous meeting - alternatively, you're still welcome to join a meeting even if you didn't get the chance to finish reading. You must RSVP in order to receive the Zoom link to join us.
This book club is being co-facilitated by Beck DeTrempe (they/them) and Nicole Torres (she/they), two trans friends who are passionate about creating spaces for their community.
If you are unable to purchase the book we’re reading, please contact Beck DeTrempe to discuss scholarship opportunities. Limited scholarships are available and are first-come, however, we really want money to not be a barrier. Please let Beck know if you could use help purchasing a book.
We love our allies, but this space is not an ally space. This group will stay closed to its identity-specific patrons only. We will be posting our book recommendations, and encourage you to read them on your own if you’re looking for books with more trans representation.
For questions, accessibility needs, or book scholarships please contact Beck DeTrempe at beck@basicallywonderful.org

Led by our facilitators, group members will participate in a conversation about the selected chapters from the book we are reading. This will be an open discussion, meaning that you are welcome to jump into the conversation whenever you'd like to share your thoughts. You're also welcome to just listen during the meeting, there is no pressure at all to share; listening is also supportive and valuable.
Please visit the Eventbrite page to find the current book discussion schedule. We also post announcements on social media so you can stay up to date!
Join our Discord server to stay in touch, keep up to date with the group, ask questions, share recommendations, and more!
Yes you can! You're more than welcome to join the meeting to just listen in, add to the conversation if you relate to the topics discussed, or tell us your thoughts about the parts of the book you did get the chance to read! Just a heads up that we cannot shield you from spoilers if you decide to join a meeting discussing something you haven't finished reading.
All you have to do is register through Eventbrite! The Zoom information will be emailed to you through your order confirmation.
Yes! We utilize a live captioning service through Rev.Com to offer captions during all of our virtual meetings.
Please email beck@basicallywonderful.org to uplift any accessibility needs you have.
No, never. All of our groups are completely free to attend.
Yeah, probably! Please email us at beck@basicallywonderful.org to request a scholarship to purchase the book. We can't guarantee your request will be approved, but we will try our best!
We purposefully use a very broad language about transness to allow for folks who are still figuring out their identities to process and explore their feelings in an environment that aims to be as non-judgmental as possible - so if that resonates with you, please feel welcome to attend. With that said, we trust people to understand whether or not the space is for them, and ask cis people to not attend this space - as we want to prioritize the safety and comfort of our participants who may not feel comfortable speaking freely with non-trans people in the meeting. We love our allies, but this is not an ally space.
Yes! While we are based in Central Florida, we welcome participants from anywhere in the world to join us for our virtual events!
This space is for anyone who is 18 years old, or older.
Peer-led support means that the support is coming from people with similar lived experiences. This group is led by and made for our trans community members. We are able to support each other in this space because of our shared identities and understanding of the nuances and needs and struggles we may have to face. No one understands us like us.
A comfort agreement is a communally created set of guidelines meant to center the comfort of participants; being in this space means you are willing to follow the agreement. If you have any questions about it, let us know!
