Queer Media Club is a virtual peer-led group for LGBTQIA+ folks to discuss queer representation and tropes in media!
Have you ever wanted to talk about queer films without a pretentious straight dude butting in? What about video games? TV shows? Welcome to the club! Join us for a group discussion of Queer Media Club’s topic of the month. We’ll be exploring different types of media, with an emphasis on TV, film, and video games.
We’ll let you know the suggested pieces of media to watch/play ahead of time to prepare for the meeting. Attendance is not mandatory – come as you are whenever you want! This group meets on 1st Wednesdays at 7-8:30PM EST. You must RSVP in order to receive the Zoom link to join us.
This group is co-facilitated by Malik (they/them) and R. Nicole (she/they), two queer nerds passionate about queer representation in media!
This group is for anyone within the LGBTQIA+ community. We love our allies, but this space is not an ally space. This group will stay closed to its identity-specific patrons only.
If you are unable to financially access a piece of media, please contact Beck DeTrempe to discuss scholarship opportunities. Limited scholarships are available and are first-come, however, we really want money to not be a barrier. Please let Beck know if you could use help renting media.
For questions or accessibility needs please contact Beck DeTrempe at beck@basicallywonderful.org
We apologize for the inconvenience, and we hope to be back in this space with you soon.
Please reach us at beck@basicallywonderful.org if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Led by our facilitators, group members will participate in a conversation about the selected media everyone watched ahead of time. This will be an open discussion, meaning that you are welcome to jump into the conversation whenever you'd like to share your thoughts. You're also welcome to just listen during the meeting, there is no pressure at all to share; listening is also supportive and valuable.
Please watch the media before attending the group! Our time in the meeting is reserved only for a discussion of the media.
Please visit the Eventbrite page to find the current media discussion schedule. We also post announcements on social media so you can stay up to date!
Join our Discord server to stay in touch, keep up to date with the group, ask questions, share recommendations, and more!
Yes you can! You're more than welcome to join the meeting to just listen in, or add to the conversation if you relate to the topics discussed, Just a heads up that we cannot shield you from spoilers if you decide to join a meeting discussing something you haven't seen.
All you have to do is register through Eventbrite! The Zoom information will be emailed to you through your order confirmation.
Yes! We utilize a live captioning service through Rev.Com to offer captions during all of our virtual meetings.

No, never. All of our groups are completely free to attend.
Yeah, probably! Please email us at beck@basicallywonderful.org to request a scholarship to purchase or rent the media. We can't guarantee your request will be approved, but we will try our best!
We purposefully use a very broad language about queerness to allow for folks who are still figuring out their identities to process and explore their feelings in an environment that aims to be as non-judgmental as possible - so if that resonates with you, please feel welcome to attend. With that said, we trust people to understand whether or not the space is for them, and ask cis/het people to not attend this space - as we want to prioritize the safety and comfort of our participants who may not feel comfortable speaking freely with non-LGBTQIA+ people in the meeting. We love our allies, but this is not an ally space.
Yes! While we are based in Central Florida, we welcome participants from anywhere in the world to join us for our virtual events!
This space is for anyone who is 18 years old, or older.
Peer-led support means that the support is coming from people with similar lived experiences. This group is led by and made for our queer community members. We are able to support each other in this space because of our shared identities and understanding of the nuances and needs and struggles we may have to face. No one understands us like us.
A comfort agreement is a communally created set of guidelines meant to center the comfort of participants; being in this space means you are willing to follow the agreement. If you have any questions about it, let us know!
